The adults spoke while children sang and tended to newly-planted trees in Kenmount Terrace this morning.
The event was held to mark the 12th anniversary of National Tree Day, this also being National Forest Week.
Next to the baby trees, the Grade 4 students from Larkhall Academy were the main attraction, performing two nature-related songs and then spreading mulch at the tree-planting sites.
Representatives with Tree Canada, the Bowring Park Foundation, Clean St. John’s and Newfoundland Power also took part in this morning’s event.

Mayor Danny Breen was scheduled to speak but was unable to attend and was represented instead by Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary.
Councillors Debbie Hanlon, Jill Bruce and Sandy Hickman were also on hand, as well as Minister Sarah Stoodley on behalf of the province.
National Tree Day takes place annually on the Wednesday of National Forest Week in September.
