The Newfoundland Herald is shutting down.
One of the longest-running publications in the province is closing its doors.
Started as the St. John’s Sunday Herald in 1946, the magazine created by Geoff Stirling launched the Stirling media empire in 1946 with the establishment of NTV and OZ FM.
Growing to prominence throughout the decades, many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians came to rely on the publication for its weekly T.V. guide and articles of human interest.
The website will remain active to post and release archival items.
In a statement sent to employees, the Newfoundland Broadcasting Company, the parent company of the Herald, says the move is due to “the ever changing landscape as it relates to technology and the shift from print to digital”.
