The St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is welcoming people back to theatres for the first time since the pandemic began.
Like so many other events, the festival shifted to an online experience over the past couple of years due to COVID-19. But yesterday organizers held their first in-person news conference to announce this year’s lineup, which includes eight local short films.
In total, 43 films were chosen to be screened this year from about 1,000 submissions.
Meghan Hollett, the festival’s interim executive director, says that presented a daunting task for their diverse jury.
She says the board is grateful for the 48 jurors, as well as staff, ensuring there were many competent eyes on the films, including representation from various groups such as the disabled and the LGBTQ2IA communities.
The 33rd annual St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is set for October 19 to October 23 and will continue to offer a virtual option.
All details and tickets are available on the festival’s website.
