Marine Atlantic is resuming its regularly scheduled ferry crossings today following the devastating impacts of Hurricane Fiona.
According to Manager of Corporate Communications, Darrell Mercer, Marine Atlantic fared well in comparison to the Communities of Port Aux Basques and North Sydney with no significant damage to their terminals or vessels being reported.
He says their captains have been monitoring conditions and it looks as though sea states are going to calm throughout the day.
As such, he says they have a lot of commercial passengers waiting on both sides so they are going to begin transporting them today, with regular passenger crossings resuming tonight.
As recovery efforts are well underway in Port aux Basques, Mercer has an important message for customers.
He says their terminal is directly off the Trans-Canada Highway. Mercer says people should not venture into Port Aux Basques to avoid interfering with recovery efforts. He asks passengers to come straight to their terminal.
