The wrath of Hurricane Fiona put up some impressive numbers according to a meteorologist with Environment Canada
Rodney Barney with the Gander Weather Office says the storm surge in Port aux Basques broke the record for the highest water level ever recorded at 2.73 metres.
He says the storm surge was some of the strongest the island has ever encountered.
The strongest winds were recorded in the Wreckhouse with gusts peaking at 177 km/h yesterday afternoon.
He says winds reached 134 km/h in Port aux Basques and 117 km/h in Stephenville.
Although the worst is behind the province, Barney says more rain is expected for the southwest coast early this week.
He says the non-tropical system moving in will not be as intense as Fiona, but will likely bring heavy rainfall.
