More charges have been laid against the man accused of shooting two people in Conception Bay South last week, triggering public safety alerts for the entire northeast Avalon.
Thirty-one-year-old Matthew Fowler was already facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter, robbery, fleeing from police, and a list of firearms offences including possession and careless use of a loaded gun.
Those charges relate to injuries suffered by Matthew Hobbs, who was shot in his home on Uplands Road in Chamberlains mid-morning last Thursday.
The new and similar list of charges allege that Fowler then travelled to Greelytown Road around the same time and shot Tim Hoskins in a home there.
An emergency alert sent to cellphones stated there was a third shooting on nearby Peachytown Road, but there’s still no confirmation of injuries or charges related to that.
Fowler was arrested following a brief and dramatic car chase on St. Thomas’s Line.
He remains in custody and appeared briefly this morning on the new charges by phone from HMP.
He’s due back in court on October 5 when all charges will be joined and heard together, as the Crown and defence discuss how they want to proceed.
