A walk to raise awareness and funds for a little-known and incurable type of cancer is being held in St. John’s this morning.
Multiple Myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer, however, despite its growing prevalence, it remains largely unknown.
That’s something that Brent Smith is hoping to change.
He was diagnosed with the disease at 53 years old and is now helping spearhead some of the efforts towards awareness and fundraising.
Smith says the event is a very important one for people living with the cancer because it represents the possibility of a cure.
He says “tremendous progress” has been made in the last 30 years and there is hope that there could eventually be a cure.
A goal for the walk has been set at $10,000.
The walk gets underway this morning at Quidi Vidi lake at 11 a.m.
