Thanks to donations, the Canadian Red Cross will begin distributing cheques to people most impacted by Hurricane Fiona, which struck two weeks ago.

$500 dollars will be given to people determined to qualify. They would have to reside in one of the following communities: Channel-Port aux Basques, Margaree-Fox Roost, Rose Blanche-Harbour le Cou, Diamond Cove, Burnt Islands, Burgeo, Isle aux Morts or Grand Bay East.

The money will be provided to people who are unable to meet their basic needs as a result of the hurricane. The person also has to be registered with the Red Cross.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can call 1-800-418-1111. The Government of Canada matches every donation and will do so until October 23.
