A soccer team from this province have made history after claiming the Jubilee Trophy national championship.
Holy Cross Kirby Group of St. John’s won the gold medal game over Ontario representative London Alliance 3-0 in Vaughan, Ontario today.
It’s the first time a team from Newfoundland and Labrador has won the top prize.
Goals came from Lauren Taylor, Malorie Harris and Connie Lewis, with Harris’ performance in the tournament giving her the most goals since 2000.
The team went 4-0 in the tournament, allowing only one goal.
Striker Jane Pope won golden boot honours for the tournament with five goals.
