A Ukrainian refugee who arrived in the province in June is now giving back and helping immigrants as they arrive to their new home.
Maruf Mahudov and his family were a part of the second group of Ukrainian refugees who arrived on a flight from Warsaw four months ago.
After settling into a new life in Newfoundland and Labrador, he now works for the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism to help those facing the same challenges he faced as a newcomer.
He says his job as an immigration program development officer allows him to help other families move to the province, something he says is the most rewarding opportunity of his lifetime.
Mahudov was at St. John’s International Airport last night to welcome 177 refugees from his home country. He says being there as they arrive to their new home is the kind thing to do.
He says Newfoundland and Labrador gave him a second chance so now it’s his turn to help other immigrants and not just those from Ukraine.
