Both the Tories and NDP say they support any initiatives aimed at beefing up the doctor population in the province.
But they also have concerns with the short notice and rushed nature of the Medical Act legislation.
PC health critic Paul Dinn wants assurances that any major decisions will go before the legislature for review and approval.
He says much like the future fund, a committee will oversee it, but he adds the House should have final, “collective” say on matters.
The NDP’s Lela Evans says the effort to recruit doctors is only worthwhile if you can keep them.
She says the legislation is heavy on bringing them in, but doesn’t address retention.
Evans also said she was shocked to learn that the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association wasn’t consulted regarding the amendments to the act.
