Animal rescue groups around the province are in need of foster homes as people are being forced to choose between housing or their pets.
Jessica Rendell, one of the founders of Heavenly Creatures, says she’s never seen such a high volume of calls from people who have to surrender their pets as they can’t find any pet-friendly housing or housing period.
While the rescue can only take in so many through foster homes as they don’t have an actual building, she says they are doing their best to help as many people as they can.
Rendell states that usually in the fall there’s an influx of students offering to foster, but this year that hasn’t been the case.
She says they are in great need of foster homes and some food. They are down to their last bit of food and are looking for wet, dry, and kitten food, along with some scratching posts and litter boxes. Rendell says it costs about $20,000 a month to help the animals as they don’t get any government funding.
Rendell says if anyone is in a position to help by providing a temporary home until the owners can find pet-friendly housing, Heavenly Creatures would love to hear from them.
