RCMP confirm that an investigation is underway into what police call a case involving “an image taken of a resident at a long term care home” in Baie Verte.
RCMP are trying to determine whether a criminal act occurred in the incident which occurred in early September.
Two families are involved after inappropriate pictures were taken of patients without their consent.
Health Minister Tom Osborne confirmed the incident in the House of Assembly yesterday, calling it “shocking” and “unacceptable.”
Privacy Commissioner Michael Harvey’s office was notified of the incident by Central Health soon after it occurred, and he will be launching his own privacy breach investigation once a complaint is received and the criminal investigation is complete.
