The official opposition is raising questions about the number of outside workers being brought in to work on provincially-funded infrastructure projects.
PC MHA Loyola O’Driscoll first raised the issue in the House of Assembly.
O’Driscoll referenced a conversation with a constituent, who says he spoke with an insulator from Quebec coming in to work on the new Adult Mental Health and Additions Facility.
He questions why workers from out of province are being brought in when there are people locally who are out of work.
In response, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Elvis Loveless boasted some high numbers for local employment at the site.
He says for several months 100 percent of employees at the site were local and at other times it was 98 percent. Loveless says they aim to employ 100 percent local workers, but sometimes expertise does get brought in from away.
