PC Leader David Brazil says he’s reassessing more than just his political career after suffering a near-fatal heart attack.
“We’re not indestructible. A lot of us think that and David Brazil was one of those.”
Not anymore, after the wakeup calls he got two weeks ago today—one at his front door; the other at the hospital.
A staffer from Brazil’s pub first woke him around 1 a.m. after closing up for the night.
The 59-year-old was lying back down when the tightness and pain hit, and he knew he was in trouble, even if it didn’t make sense.
Brazil’s wife got him to the Health Sciences but with no such family history, he was in denial until informed that it was the LAD, or so-called widow-maker artery, that was blocked.
He had emergency surgery and is definitely recovering in good spirits, calling the entire episode an “eye-opener.”
He says getting a second chance has altered his perspectives and priorities, including where politics fits into it all.
Brazil had been leaning toward a run for permanent PC leader.
For now though there’ll be less of that House and more of his own as he works to flip his diet and adjust to the new meds.
“You know, it gets you thinking about life and everything else, and in reality, it’s what you gotta do, so ?”
