The provincial government is touting its proposed pay equity legislation as being progressive, a sentiment not being shared by members of the opposition.
Women and Gender Equality Minister Pam Parsons, as well as Ministers Bernard Davis and Siobhan Coady, announced the details of the legislation yesterday.
Opposition critic for the PCs, Helen Conway-Ottenheimer, and NDP Critic Lela Evans share similar concerns.
While they both agree that any progress is good, they both criticize what they call a lack of consultation on the issue.
Ultimately, neither Evans nor Conway-Ottenheimer agrees that the legislation is progressive.
Conway-Ottenheimer says the legislation is not making progress because it just reaffirms the status quo. Similarly, Evans says it relies a lot on what not to do rather than being proactive.
