Nearly a month after Hurricane Fiona ripped through Port aux Basques the State of Emergency is finally being lifted.
Mayor Brian Button says lifting the State of Emergency won’t have any impact on ongoing work to help residents, complete assessments and clean up debris, and the town is slowly transitioning to returning to regular operations.
He says all the debris collected is going to the transfer station just outside Port au Basques, and is being sorted and transferred to Corner Brook as necessary.
The emotional toll has been enormous says Button, and many people have sought out help to deal with the loss.
He says mental health teams have been dispatched to sites were demolitions were necessary and they’ve done what they can to salvage those special personal mementos that mean so much.
