A young man charged with second-degree murder in the death of a woman at a downtown St. John’s rooming house has been granted bail.
21-year-old David Quirke is accused of killing 42-year-old Rayna Dove two days after last Christmas. The victim was reportedly stabbed in the early morning hours of December 27 at the residence on Cookstown Road.
Vivid details of the tragic event were presented in court on Thursday to help inform Justice Glen Noel’s decision on bail. And while it’s not the first time relatives have seen and heard the evidence, they were again visibly distraught by the sights and sounds.
All evidence remains banned from publication pending the trial before judge and jury, scheduled for next March.
Strict conditions have been imposed around Quirke’s release, including a $50,000 surety, no drugs or alcohol, and to reside with a relative on the south coast of the island.
