The federal government is extending its Fiona relief program.
Ottawa has pledged to match all donations to the Red Cross to help those affected by the hurricane. Minister of Emergency Preparedness, Bill Blair, announced yesterday that the program will now be extended until October 31.
The program has already raised over $22 million.

So far, $500,000 is being issued to affected communities through the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs.
To date, approximately $147,000 has been approved to fund clean-up efforts, hire relief staff and pay overtime to town employees. Expenses are fully covered and communities will not have to cost-share.
As well, $1.5 million has been provided to help residents currently in temporary accommodations.
Residents impacted by Fiona are asked to register with the Red Cross if they haven’t already done so. Registration can be completed by calling 1-800-863-6582 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. or by visiting the St. Christopher Hotel between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday.
