A gas analyst says it’s time for governments to take the foot off the accelerator when it comes to carbon tax.
It has been a hot topic this week with the Conservative motion in the House of Commons to exempt home heating fuel from the tax having failed. However, Avalon MP Ken McDonald went against his Liberal Government and sided with the Opposition.
The tax will be about 20 cents per litre come April 1 and 50 cents by the year 2030.
Dan McTeague, President of Canadians for Affordable Energy, says Canadians are not moving away from fossil fuels as quickly as the world thought.
He says that should not be seen as a bad thing in and of itself so he’s calling on government to change the narrative. In his view, there are not enough affordable alternatives to fossil fuel.
