Some of the province’s most talented musicians were honoured at the annual MusicNL Awards Gala on Saturday night.
Artists who took home two awards each include Rachel Cousins, Nick Earle & The Reckless Hearts, Deantha Edmunds, Florian Hoefner, and Rosemary Lawton.
Lawton, who took home the awards for Celtic/Traditional Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year says it’s a validating feeling to be recognized for all the hard work she’s put in over the past two years.
Singer Justin Fancy took home Entertainer of the Year, Quote the Raven was named Group of the Year.
Ukrainian-Newfoundland group the Kubasonics won Folk/Roots Artist of the Year, Alternative Artist of the Year went to Swimming, Youngtree & The Blooms claimed Country Artist of the Year and Alex Byrne was named Electronic Artist of the Year.
Loud Artist of the Year went to Slowpoke, King Sway was named Rap/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, Jing Xia took home the Rising Star of the Year honours and Dan George was named Side Musician of the Year.
The Songwriter of the Year Award, named after local icon Ron Hynes was presented to Kelly McMichael.
The gala, hosted by Your VOCM Morning’s hosts Gerri Lynn Mackey and Ben Murphy marked the end of a week-long MusicNL celebration in Corner Brook.
