The mayor of Stephenville expects their population to double over the next several years as the clean-energy hydrogen projects kick in, and he sees the expansion plans at and around their airport as integral to that growth.
The Dymond Group of Companies, which is in the process of acquiring the Stephenville Airport, expects to begin construction in the spring.
They plan to expand the terminal building to rival that of St. John’s and add shopping, food and recreational options in and around the airport.
Deer Lake is the air travel hub on the west coast but Mayor Tom Rose says Stephenville used to own that claim in the past and there’s no reason why they can’t do so again.
World Energy GH2 would bring in some 1,800 rotational workers and Mayor Rose wouldn’t be surprised to see the population of 7,000 double.
They are beginning plans for the expansion of residential, commercial, light industrial and heavy industrial because a lot of capital and a lot of growth is going to happen in Stephenville. Families are going to need goods and services.
