Both the Beaumont Hamel and the Legionnaire were tied up early this afternoon after the ferries came into contact with each other while docking at Bell island, causing damage to both vessels.
Both ferries must now undergo an inspection before being allowed to return to service.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure indicates that both vessels are now being assessed to determine when they will return to service.
Helicopter service will be arranged if necessary. Both ferries will be tied up at Portugal Cove until they receive clearance.
