RNC are reaching out to residents of the Three Island Pond area for any possible information or evidence related to the discovery of the remains of 33-year-old Trevor Hamlyn.
Hamlyn went missing from his Imogene Crescent home in June of 2018, and skeletal remains discovered in a wooded area a 10-minute drive away were positively identified as his earlier this week.
An anthropologist and archaeologist have been brought in to help process the site and determine a possible cause of death along with the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. Police say it could be some time before it’s known how Trevor Hamlyn died.
Despite the more than four years that have elapsed since Hamlyn was last seen, RNC Constable James Cadigan says they are hopeful new evidence might still be forthcoming. He says given the location of the remains, they’re hoping area residents might have information.
And while the discovery has brought closure for one family after 4 and a half years, other families go without, their hope that it might be their loved one, dashed again.
RNC media relations Const. James Cadigan says it can be traumatic for them, as well as investigators who go through it with them.
He says words can’t capture the deep emotion from the relationships some investigators build with grieving families, adding they see the emotional impact and pain first-hand.
Meanwhile, local musician Dave Whitty, a longtime friend of Hamlyn’s, is organizing a fundraiser for the family. It’s set for Trapper John’s on Friday night, November 11, with all money raised going directly to the family of Trevor Hamlyn.
