The province’s cost of living cheques should start being issued in the next week or so.
The Department of Finance says it anticipates that cheques will start being distributed by mid-November.
The provincial government announced that cheques for $500 dollars will be distributed to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who are 18 years old as of December 31, 2022, who filed an income tax return last year and who makes less than $100,000 dollars.
It’s estimated that some 392,000 residents will be eligible for the one-time benefit. Those who make between $100,000 and $125,000 will receive a partial payment of between $250 and $500 dollars.
The benefit was made possible this year due to an unanticipated revenue surplus.
