A man accused of two recent shootings in CBS that triggered emergency alerts for the Northeast Avalon, has been denied bail.
Thirty-one-year-old Matthew Fowler is charged with shooting two men at different homes on September 22.
The victims are identified in court documents as Matthew Hobbs and Tim Hoskins, who continue to recover from gunshot wounds.
The drama played out on a Thursday morning, with the first shooting reported at a home on Uplands Road in Chamberlains, and a second a short time later at a house on Greeleytown Road in Foxtrap.
Details surrounding a third shooting on Peachytown Road remain murky.
The incidents led to emergency alerts on cell phones and secure school protocols for the entire region.
The warnings were lifted following a car chase and Fowler’s arrest on St. Thomas’s Line.
He’s been in custody ever since but made a pitch for bail this week which was denied by Judge David Orr after hearing all evidence in the case, which can’t be published yet.
Fowler faces more than a dozen charges including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter, robbery, fleeing from police, and a list of serious firearms offences.
Crown prosecutor Sheldon Steeves tells VOCM News he’s pleased with the judge’s decision, acknowledging public safety, in light of the gun-related charges, was a key consideration.
Fowler remains at HMP pending his next court date on November 10.
