The St. John’s Status of Women Council has received a Council of the Federation Award for Innovation in Mental Health and Addictions Care for its Managed Alcohol Program.
The pilot program was launched last year to help those who are exposed to risks and harm related to alcohol use.
The harm reduction approach provided by the program allows participants a safe and stable supply of alcohol, along with social and health care support.
According to government, the team works with Eastern Health to assess participant eligibility, determine a safe dose of alcohol, and provide ongoing assessment and primary health care services.
The Council of the Federation Award includes a $5,000 dollar award and certificate.
