Daylight saving time is over and the clocks have fallen back by an hour.
That means now is a good time to check the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Captain Gary Power of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department says the beginning and end of daylight saving time are good markers to check on those important instruments.
He says statistics show that smoke alarms save lives. They should be located on every floor of the home and inside all bedrooms. As well, Power says people should have an emergency plan in place in the event that a smoke alarm does go off.
