Canada, represented by the Brad Gushue rink of St. John’s, jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first two ends and never looked back in claiming the inaugural Pan Continental Curling Championship in Calgary.
The tournament is a qualifier for the World Championship, which will be hosted by Canada.
They lost only one match en route to the title, taking out Korea in the final 11-3. The competition turned lighthearted at the end as Gushue did a between-the-legs spinorama and the opposing skip held on to his last rock near the hog line as his mates swept the invisible stone.
Gushue has been battling some hip problems but it did not show.
The Tim Horton’s Brier takes place in March and the world championship is in Ottawa in April.
