Opposition Finance critic Tony Wakeham is once again calling on the provincial government to help lower the cost of living by rebating the Carbon Tax on gas and diesel.
Wakeham says gas price analysts are predicting a continued rise in gas and diesel as the cold weather and holiday season approaches.
Diesel went up by more than 27 cents a litre on Saturday. Wakeham suggests that reducing the Carbon Tax —11 cents a litre on gas and 13 cents on diesel, could be an option to help residents with rising costs.
A one-time $500 dollar cost of living benefit cheque is expected to be issued to all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians aged 18 years and older who filed an income tax return last year and made less than $100,000 dollars.
