The interim leader of the NDP is continuing to express his concern over the new Provincial Health Authority Act.
Jim Dinn says under the proposed legislation, the Minister of Health can direct the release of personal healthcare information of people if he does not agree with a panel of ethics experts.
He says government has failed to justify why a Minister of Health needs this power, and that it would’ve been properly flagged had the Privacy Commissioner received Bill 20 before it was presented in the House of Assembly.
Dinn is calling for government to pull the bill and build legislation with better protection of health information from political interference.
