A federal cabinet minister from this province says she supports the call for increased search and rescue services in Labrador.
Rural Economic Development Minister and Long Range Mountains MP Gudie Hutchings says she would “fully” support increased services on the Bigland.
She says it was the previous administration that limited coast guard services in the province initially.
She says the previous government closed the Coast Guard Search and Rescue Centre in St. John’s, before the current government built a new facility. She says while they have increased services, more needs to be done. She says she and Labrador MP Yvonne Jones have spoken to Canadian Coast Guard Minister Joyce Murray about the need.
