Empire Company Limited, the company that owns the Sobeys grocery store chain has confirmed that it has been affected by “an IT systems issue.”
Customers started noticing issues last Friday morning, encountering problems with prescriptions at pharmacies and with gift cards. Signs went up in stores, including Sobeys, Foodland, Lawton’s and Needs, soon after that indicating that some problems were being experienced.
Empire says customers are not seeing significant disruptions, but some in-store services are functioning intermittently or with a delay.
The company says it is making “significant progress” in reducing the impact of the disruption but is unable to say when all issues will be fully resolved.
