A long-standing politician is taking a leave of absence after being diagnosed with a reoccurrence of breast cancer.
Labrador MP Yvonne Jones made the announcement today.
Jones says she received her diagnosis in September, following a regular mammogram. She says it was 12 years ago that she underwent her first bout with breast cancer and has enjoyed a full, active and healthy life following rounds of surgery, chemo and radiation.
Jones says the latest occurrence was found early, and she will be taking a leave of absence to undergo surgery and medical treatment as required.
She is encouraging all women who are of age to get a regular mammogram and undergo well-woman checks.
