The Nunatsiavut Government is welcoming an announced pre-feasibility study for a road link to the north coast of Labrador.
Communities north of Cartwright are connected to the rest of the province only by air and ferry. In the winter residents are connected over vast areas of land by snowmobile.
Nunatsiavut First Minister Melva Williams welcomes the federal-provincial government funding of $400,000 dollars to conduct a pre-feasibility into a road link to the region.
Williams says it’s something the Nunatsiavut government has been lobbying for for well over a decade. She expects a “comprehensive consultation process to take place with the Nunatsiavut Government, as well as at the community level” before any firm decisions are made.
