Torrential downpour on the southwest coast over the weekend hit an area already dealing with destruction from Hurricane Fiona hard.
Port aux Basques recorded over 84 mm of rain and caused flooding in some parts of the town.
Mayor Brian Button says it was a busy day for town staff who required additional crews to respond to reports of flooding due to the rain and lack of infrastructure due to damages from Fiona.
He says some of the homes that were safe during Fiona were not so lucky on Saturday.
Mayor Button says unfortunately the homes that were previously not damaged experienced flooding and other storm-related issues.
Following Hurricane Fiona, many residents are dealing with a lot of anxiety when it comes to approaching weather.
He says residents are aware of the severity of the damage to town infrastructure. Under normal circumstances, that amount of rain can cause minor issues. Due to Fiona, heavy rainfall can easily cause additional issues.
