Drive Electric NL is taking a unique approach to testing its newest electric vehicle.
The group received a brand new all-electric Ford F-150 pickup truck earlier this year—one of the first of its kind in this province.
Jon Seary of Drive Electric NL says they knew one of the first questions they would get would be on how far it could travel.
Seary says they decided to do their own experiment by taking the truck to Victoria, B.C., and driving it across the country to St. John’s.
The 22-day trip wrapped up this past Friday. Seary says the truck’s battery lasted for about 300 kilometres, but with certain EV infrastructure, charging took no time at all.
He says some charging stations were so fast that their truck battery would be completely full by the time they returned from ordering from a fast food restaurant.
He says they noticed that some provinces such as British Columbia and Quebec are more advanced in electric vehicle infrastructure than others.
Currently, there are fewer than six electric trucks in Newfoundland and Labrador, something Seary hopes will increase as local dealerships continue to expand their EV inventory.
