The City of St. John’s will be conducting roadside pruning operations today until March 31, 2023.
The purpose is to prune low-hanging branches that interfere with pedestrian or vehicular traffic and create sightline issues. To ensure unobstructed and safe passage, branches must be pruned to a height of approximately 2.4 metres (8 feet) over the sidewalk and 4.2 metres (14 feet) over the road.
Most branches will be shortened back to points of attachment nearest the edge of the right of way, rather than the removal of the entire branch. Branches above 4.2 metres in height will be allowed to develop normally. Broken, dead or decayed material will be corrected or removed as required.
The pruning will take place in the Portugal Cove Road/ New Cove Road/ Kenna’s Hill area, Elizabeth Avenue from Anderson Avenue to Carpasian Street and the Empire Avenue/ Freshwater Road area.
Roadside pruning operations begin Nov. 14 and continue until March 2023.
