St. John’s Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary is quitting Twitter due to what she calls fraudulent accounts and toxicity on the social media platform.
O’Leary issued a Tweet on Monday saying she was suspending her account and directed all inquiries to her email.
O’Leary isn’t the first on council to do so, councillor Ophelia Ravencroft deleted her profile months ago.
The deputy mayor says she had been thinking of deleting her account for a long time and finally made the decision following recent changes to the social media platform.
O’Leary says she is readily available to residents, but believes being available on a platform she considers toxic is not good for her mental health and productivity.
Hi folks. I am suspending my Twitter account due to fraudulent accounts and ongoing toxicity. This account will not be monitored. Please feel free to reach me at soleary@stjohns.ca for @CityofStJohns issues. Thank you.
