A committee known as the Friends of Cabot Martin has announced its intent to raise funds to finance a Cabot Martin Award for Research in Regional Policy and Development at Memorial University.
Martin, one of the key architects of the Atlantic Accord, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in September.
Martin’s friend, Des Sullivan, says they decided to honour Martin with an award, fittingly reflecting Martin’s own work in defense of the province’s economic independence.
Members of the committee are now reaching out to the general public and various oil and fishing industry players to raise funds for the award. The intent is to offer the award for a six-year period.
