There was a sense of positivity in the air during an information session on Hurricane Fiona relief held by government in Port aux Basques yesterday, according to government officials.
At the session, government outlined in greater detail some of the supports available to people who lost their homes and answered some of the many questions of people still trying to piece together their lives.
Area MHA Andrew Parsons says that based on the conversations and questions he’s heard since the meeting, he believes most people were “upbeat” about what they were told.
He notes that there are a lot of people that still need answers because of the complexities of their individual situations—but overall they need to find a way forward because people are wondering what is next.
Mayor Brian Button agrees that the meeting went well.
He thinks that for most people the meeting gave people a sense that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and while things won’t be as they were before, it’s a start to get their lives back in order.
