The RNC’s Mounted Unit will start evening patrols in the capital city’s downtown leading into the holiday season.
Starting tomorrow evening, patrols will be conducted throughout downtown St. John’s.
The RNC’s Mounted Unit is used to conduct crowd control, participate in searches and provide extra patrol in neighbourhoods, as well as respond to disturbances and help with traffic control.
The Constabulary says while the horses always draw attention they ask people never to approach a horse from behind, give the animal space, do not pet or feed the horse and give the horses right of way in traffic.
Residents are being invited to #Spot the Mounted Unit by posting a photo to social media using the contest hashtag, for a chance to win a prize of a gift card. A post will be selected each week on Mounted Unit Monday.
