Hibernia has been a “brazen success” despite all the naysayers and against all odds, says the CEO of Energy NL.
Charlene Johnson was speaking at a celebration last night to mark 25 years since first oil from the field.
A less formal event is planned for later today, the actual anniversary, on the platform at sea.
Johnson spoke of the determination to succeed in the face of widespread skepticism.
She says many doubted the province’s commitment and capabilities, stating “were they ever wrong.”
Several hundred people attended last night’s event at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
Hibernia has raked in almost $20 billion in royalties for the federal and provincial governments since it came on line in 1997.
