Premier Andrew Furey is frustrated with the sheer volume of reports related to allegations against Chief Electoral Officer Bruce Chaulk, outlined in a whistleblower report issued by Citizen’s Representative Bradley Moss.
An investigation into the actions of the Citizen’s Representative after he acted on revelations from whistleblowers about a toxic work environment at Elections NL has resulted in calls for him to apologize to three people who perform different functions in the House of Assembly.
Moss is standing his ground and says to apologize would undermine the entire office.
The premier says he will be reflecting on what next steps are necessary to figure out if there is a better mechanism to resolve conflicts and address what happens when an independent officer makes a complaint against another, stating “people are sick of all these reports, it’s confusing, you need a flow chart to figure it out.”
Furey says it begs the question about whether or not it’s time for a serious review of the legislation, “and how these independent officers are governed.”
