The case involving two Romanians accused of stealing expensive perfume and cologne from several Shoppers Drug Marts has been postponed until next month.
Twenty-nine-year-old Cristines Bacelan and 24-year-old Elisabeta Cimpina face 12 charges including thefts over and under $5,000.
Their case was set for speedy disposition in Gander court this afternoon, which usually means guilty pleas followed by sentencing.
Instead, all parties agreed to set the matter over until Dec. 15. No reason for the change of plans was given in the courtroom, which was presided over virtually by Judge Lori Marshall in St. John’s.
Meanwhile, the accused have remained in custody at HMP and the women’s correctional centre in Clarenville since their arrest 24 days ago, on October 25th.
They were nabbed aboard the ferry in Port ax Basques shortly before its departure.
RCMP later obtained a warrant and recovered almost $10,000 worth of merchandise from their vehicle.
It’s not clear exactly what will transpire when the matter returns to court next month.
