A junior curler from this province got an unexpected surprise last month when he got the call to join Team Gushue on an international level.
19-year-old Nathan Young was selected to join the group as the fifth man for the recent Pan Continental Curling Championship in Calgary where the team claimed gold against South Korea.

Young says Gushue called him “out of the blue” a few weeks before the tournament.
He says it was a total shock that he went from looking up to curlers like Gushue to being asked to join his squad. At first, Young felt a lot of nerves and pressure.
The young athlete says he became more comfortable playing on such a large stage after seeing how relaxed the team is.

He says Gushue’s rink is very calm and consistent during all aspects of the game. Whether the team is winning or losing, their main focus is to take it “one shot at a time”.
As of right now, the recent championship is Young’s only tournament with Team Gushue but hopes there will be more opportunities in the future.
