The co-author of a report on the fiscal performance of Canada’s premiers admits Andrew Furey has made improvements since the period on which the report was based.
The Fraser Institute ranked Furey dead last among the country’s ten premiers in terms of fiscal performance citing debt and deficit, taxation and government spending among the key indicators.
Premier Furey defended his performance following the report. The Fraser Institute’s Jake Fuss acknowledged that things improved in the province’s fall fiscal update.
He says what’s important is to repeat positive fiscal performance in the coming year, exercise spending restraint and ultimately look at tax rates.
