Weather is front and centre this morning right across all corners.
Some roads are treacherous with temperatures in the plus 2 to minus 2 range and high winds.
There have already been a few accidents on the steep section of Paradise Road; many other roads in the metro region are slippery. It’s slow-going at the Doe Hills on the edge of the Avalon with whiteouts and slippery roads, prompting RCMP to ask drivers to avoid the area for a time while a number of vehicles were stranded on the highway.
The Gulf ferries and Bell Island ferries are tied up and some flights at St. John’s International have been cancelled.
Wanda Batten, meteorologist at the Gander Weather Office, says the high winds won’t ease to any great degree until day’s end.
They will be about 120 km/h in the east, slightly less inland, and going down to 60-90 tonight before dropping overnight.
🚨⚠️Update: TCH near Doe Hills is now clear from vehicles that were stuck. Motorists are advised to use caution and travel with reduced speeds when driving through this area. #NLTraffic https://t.co/aYn2U44VGY
