The FFAW says the local commercial fishery of today would be unrecognizable to the many people who made their living off the fishery over the centuries.
The FFAW is marking World Fisheries Day, a day set aside to recognize commercial fisheries and the many people whose livelihoods rely on sustainably managed ocean ecosystems.
The province’s commercial fishery is valued at over $1 billion annually, a credit the union says, to the collective action of fish harvesters who have fought, advocated and rallied for the industry.
