As part of its triennial constitutional convention, the NL Federation of Labour held a rally in St. John’s over the lunch hour.
The bright colours of the union flags popped against the grey St. John’s sky as the federation and its members rallied at Harbourside Park to show that they are “stronger together.”
Numerous organizations were represented at the event including NAPE, CUPE, the Nurses Union, and the Canadian Labour Congress.
Outgoing Federation of Labour President Mary Shortall says typically they would choose one issue to rally around, but there were several important issues to cover. So instead, members held signs with the issues they wanted highlighted on them.
Those issues include pay equity, childcare, support for young workers, safe workplaces, and better work/life balance.
